Me and [info]redneck_queer in front of the varyingly-hued castle :)

The first photo I ever snapped was a polaroid of my parents in front of the same castle when I was 6:

My dad has been scanning old slides, and while I'm home, I grabbed a bunch of them from him. A few of them are here on flickr!

[i]maxineofarc: pink PINK pink PINK

Since I've been away for 3 out of 4 weeks of December and am running short on time, I'm giving up the search for Just The Right Pink Stripe. If I get a ton of baby pink... something... for the overdress, then I can do stripes with raspberry fabric paint for one side, and curlicues with very pale pink paint for the other. And dots for the parasol if I can find one I want to cover. Slightly more labor intensive but less of a headache, and I can be sure the pinks will coordinate. I might even use my favorite old duchess satin for this mess- Josephine's the Narcissist, right? She can be a little shiny. Or Fashion Fabrics looks to have some light pink poplins that might work better. The skirt is plain enough, thank goodness, and I'll probably cheat on the shoes.

The wig is a towering monstrosity of pseudo-Georgian ringlets. Easy enough; I'll get a white wig with bangs, build a mesh or foam base, comb the hair up onto it, and cover with ringlets wrapped around foam bases or something. Then there's a little mini tricorn hat.

I hope I have time to do any of this.

[i]aroraborealis: fund public transit

Today is one of those days where what I wrote for my work blog is what I would also write here, so instead I'll just point you over there:

Fund public transit.

Please share this around!

Hey, want me to ask you something? Maybe something about yourself I've been wondering or something I've been wondering about in general or just whatever pops into my head when I'm responding ...

[i]aroraborealis: On the ground, but ...

So, I'm stuck on a plane in Chicago while waiting for the airport people to give us a gate. While waiting, I thought I'd check the status of my connecting flight. I have plenty of time, so I'm not really worried about making it, but it's something to do.

While looking, I see that the airline is calling our flight "arrived", and I'm certain this goes toward their "on time" statistics for this flight. But it strikes me as a bit misleading to call this flight arrived if no one can get off for another 15 minutes. It's not like the people who have short connections are all, "Oh, thank goodness we're here. I'll definitely make my next flight now."

Every time I fly out on a ridiculously early flight, I think to myself, "I'm never going to do this to myself again. it sucks!"

But then when it comes time again to decide between spending the extra $150 or get up in the middle of the night to get to the airport in time, I think to myself, "Oh, it can't be that bad, can it?"

Probably, if I were buying the ticket the day before, it would be worth it, but as it is, the decision and the misery are too far apart to change the factors of my decision effectively.

So, I'm flying out tomorrow at 6am. I will not have coffee first, because this is the one setting in which I have a shot at actually sleeping for part of the flight. Hey, a girl can dream, right?

[info]enegim shared this bit of adorableness... I don't know the original source, but it's such a gem!

By the account: this vacationing couple set the auto-timer, walked back, and sat down for their portrait...and had an unexpected visitor intervene:
